so with the new e-mindef system in place, its really helpful for ns men.. not. firstly saf 100s used to be served a good 4 months before the call up date, which is good, cause then you have ample notice. apparently not with the new system, i got my MOB briefing call up last thursday (BY SMS). that leaves me 1 week to submit my deferment, coupled with the fact that i am having exams. not very helpful.
2ndly, saf 100s used to indicate how you can submit your deferments. so now that they scrap the mailed version of the saf 100, i don't have that (i threw the old ones away), i haf to call a whole bunch of ppl, all giving me stupid ways to submit my deferment (like fax, hello im student, gimme a blardy email address lar). so i called up 1800 emindef (the 24 hr help for ns men) and i was told to fax it in, before that one guy even have the cheek to ask me go attend the briefing, "the briefing won't take more than half a day". I KNOW THAT YOU FOOL,BUT I WILL NEED ANOTHER HALF A DAY TO GET THERE AND BACK WONT I???!! (the time i must go home and change into my smart 4, plus travel all the way to the forsaken Pasir Ris camp and back). not very helpful.
so knowing that i can email it (just that i still dunno what the email address is), i searched on for it, since i've emailed it before. so then i called my fren, he told me to call my unit.(he himself faxed it.. muahhaha) then when i called the unit, they referred me to nssc. only then did the nice lady gave me the email to email it in.
okay then i wait 3 days (i know it takes 2 weeks to process a deferment, but hell you gave me less than 2 weeks notice aniwei) to get my approval, and still no reply, and then again i call up the 1800 mindef number (cos i MISPLACED the nssc direct line number, this one my fault lar k , i scribble on my rough paper used for STARDYING and i threw that paper away). so then i asked for the nssc number, they tell me no direct line.. so they gave me a mindef main office number and then they transfered me to nssc (oh by the way, submitting my deferment to nssc means they forward to my unit, and i cant contact me unit directly.. thats the crap), which told me that my deferment is in process (HELLO TMR I NEED TO REPORT IF U DUN DEFER ME LEH) and finally she said im excused.
so where does the problem lie?? the helpline should know the numbers and email to everything that is needed by a NS man in he's entire NS cycle. thats what helplines do, they HELP you, not direct you here and there like you're some stupid car stuck in traffic. plus they should maintain a database of who's still in which school and update accordingly so they don't call ppl up unnecessary during term time!! its a bitch having to apply for deferment manz. holidays i don't mind, but don't blardy come and waste my time on little details.
